an all-day event featuring

live music, activities for

kids and adults alike,

and other special events—

The Historic Monument Merchants Association is excited to present a summer event you are not going to want to miss! Finally Summer Soul-stice is a day-long community celebration featuring special merchant events, hayrides, kids art activities, live music, food and a paint-out done by local professional artists painting in the traditional plein air style.

A Chalk Walk for kids, teens, amateur and professional artists is a highlight of this year’s celebration. Participants are encouraged to create everything from temporary chalk “masterpieces” to some colorful games of tic-tac-toe! Chalk will be supplied participation is free. Call 719.460.4179 for more information or register at Second Street Art Market and Wine Bar, 366 Second Street starting at 9:00am on June 19.

This family-friendly event is designed to provide attendees with a rich cultural experience. Additionally, other special events and merchant offers will make the day of Finally Summer Soul-stice a fun and extraordinary shopping experience.

All activities will take place in the “downtown” Historic Monument. Some of the events will include face-painting, balloon art, many different crafts from potted plants to making a crystal sun-catcher. The bands and musicians will be spread throughout town for your enjoyment. The “Soul Train” (hayride) will transport you from the different venues.

Music

12:00 to 1:00pm - Margo's on the Alley will feature Matt Martinez

12:00 to 3:00pm - Paradise Ponds and Landscaping will feature Nathan Jon & Melissa Beth

2:00 to 4:00pm - Chris Loyer Quartet playing jazz tunes from be-bop to contemporary at Wisdom Tea House

5:00 to 9:00pm - La Casa Fiesta will feature the live music of Crosser Davis on their patioFront Street Square

Chalk Walk
A Chalk Walk will be held throughout the historic downtown for kids, adults, amateur and professional artists. Please call 719.460.4179 for more information about how to sign up for the chalk walk. This activity is free and chalk will be supplied to all participants. Register at Second Street Art Market and Wine Bar at 366 Second Street.

Soul Train
The Soul Train hayrides will run all day from Gallery Center, Front Street Square and the old Town Hall parking lot.

Arts and Crafts at Old Town Hall
Free arts and crafts activities throughout the day at the old Town Hall from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

Street Scene Plein Air Artists
9:00am to 2:00pm - Amateur and professional artists getting inspiration in various locations throughout downtown; registration in La Casa Fiesta parking lot.

Merchant Events

Second Street Art Market and Wine Bar
Throughout the day we will feature refreshing SUMMER wine tastings. Drawing for $50 gift certificate. Also, Kevin Rorke and band will be performing from 12:00 to 2:00pm.

Monument Ride Center
Come and sign up for a free drawing.

Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Protection District
Fire truck demonstrations and safety talks to public from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

Bella Casa
Open house with refreshments.

Margo’s on the Alley
Acoustic player from the Town of Monument, Matt Martinez will be playing his guitar from 1:00 to 2:00pm. Come and join us for music, refreshments and great gifts for your self and home.

Prickly Pear
Artist Arlyane McKee will be painting leaves from nature at Prickly Pear. Free bubbles for the kids and roses for mom.

Santa Fe Trail Jewelry
Come see this charming nook filled with one of a kind works of the jewler’s art. We are your local Trollbeads dealer. Marylee will be showcasing select pieces of her newest creations.

Bella Vi
Free tea and smoothies with appetizers. Art gallery photos by Zak Shelhamer. Drawings for a free massage and facial.

Covered Treasures Bookstore
We will have two authors of children’s books. Mary Stern, Where Did All the Animals Go? and Country Critters and Barbara Tyner, Badger the Dog from 10:00am to 12:00pm. And Robert Liparulo, Dreamhouse Kings Series from 12:00 to 2:00pm.

Bella Art & Frame
We will have a caricature artist and framing specials for the frames. We are having a BBQ fundraiser for the downtown Monument skating park. We also will have a demo by Chiro and Msuse.

BeXpressed
Come join us for frozen tropical drinks and help with donations for the Monument skate park.

Paradise Ponds and Landscaping
Come to Paradise Ponds and Landscaping and walk amongst the serene sound of waterfalls, watch the colorful fish, and listen to live acoustic music by Nathan Jon & Melissa Beth.

Wisdom Tea House
The tea house will have live music and gelato on the patio. We’ll feature the music of the Chris Loyer Quartet from 2:00 to 4:00 pm; they’ll be playing everything from be-bop to contemporary jazz. Gelato and sorbetto, Italian ice cream made fresh here at the tea house from real ingredients, will be available all day—or until we sell out!

High Country Home and Garden
We are hosting a Garden for the Soul potting party for kids. Each child will be able to pot a plant to introduce them to gardening. No fee, starts at 11:00am.

Luna Hair Studio and Spa
Brighten Your Look for Summer! From 2:00 to 4:00pm, the staff at Luna is offering Complimentary Hair and Skin Consultations. Stop by throughout the day for refreshments, door prizes and money saving coupons for hair, skin, nails and massage services.

Tri-Lakes Views will dedicate the installation of ARTsites 2010 at Monument Town Hall from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Refreshments will be provided. “Dancing Moon” by Raven Marie Swanson and Ivan Kotsa’s “Wellness Globe” will be unveiled.
