an all-day event featuring

live music, activities for

kids and adults alike,

and other special events—

The Historic Monument Merchants Association is excited to present a summer event you are not going to want to miss! Finally Summer Soul-stice is a day-long community celebration featuring special merchant events, hayrides, art activities for kids, live music, and fabulous food.

A Chalk Walk for kids, teens, amateur and professional artists is a highlight of this year’s celebration. Participants are encouraged to create everything from temporary chalk “masterpieces” to some colorful games of tic-tac-toe! Chalk will be supplied participation is free. This family-friendly event is designed to provide attendees with a rich cultural experience. Additionally, other special events and merchant offers will make the day of Finally Summer Soul-stice a fun and extraordinary shopping experience.

All activities will take place in the “downtown” Historic Monument. Some of the events will include face-painting, balloon art, many different crafts from potted plants to making a crystal sun-catcher. The bands and musicians will be spread throughout town for your enjoyment. The “Soul Train” (hayride) will transport you from the different venues.

Finally Summer Soul-stice 2011 Schedule of Events

Music
12:00 to 2:00pm - Gloss will feature acoustic country music with Lacy Grit

12:00 to 2:00pm - Hangers will feature LPHS Trombone Quartet

2:00 to 4:00pm - The Flores Brothers featuring Wayne Wilkinson will be playing live jazz and latin jazz on the patio at Wisdom Tea House

5:00 to 9:00pm - La Casa Fiesta will feature the live music on their patio

Chalk Walk
A Chalk Walk will be held throughout the historic downtown for kids, adults, amateur and professional artists. Please call 719.460.4179 for more information about how to sign up for the chalk walk. This activity is free and chalk will be supplied to all participants. Register at La Casa Fiesta Mexican Restaurant, 230 Front Street.

Soul Train
The Soul Train hayrides will have stops throughout the historic downtown.

Arts and Crafts
Various merchants will host kids' crafts throughout the day. See below for details.

Merchant Events

Gloss
We will have a band called Lacy Grit from 12:00 to 2:00pm. Lacy Grit features lead vocalist Stephanie Reeves from Dallas, violinist Michelle Edwards fresh out of Nashville, and guitarist Herb Wetzel from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Their unique acoustic country sound, tight vocal harmonies, and authentic delivery connects with audiences of all ages and walks of life.

Monument Ride Center
Come in and take a little rest from your activities.

Nationwide Flooring and Design Center
Local Artist Leisha Hiester will be doing a pottery demonstration. We will have free cotton candy and a couple of drawings so come by and enter. We are planning a lot of fun things.

Create A Memory Studio
Join us for some great crafts for kids.

The Vintage Merchants
We will be cookin’ up hot dogs and serving ice cold lemonade. Stop by and put your name in the boot for a couple of prize drawings.

Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Protection District
Fire truck demonstrations and safety talks to public from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

Bella Casa
Join us in our relaxing outdoor patio filled with beautiful flowers and outdoor accessories. We will have refreshments and a great time.

Santa Fe Trail Jewelry
Pay us a visit at our new location, on the alley behind Bella Casa. Featuring a plein air painter on our porch.

Prickly Pear
Stop in to receive a free, fresh flower to lighten your souls and brighten your kitchen.

Covered Treasures Bookstore
Vivian Kirkfield will be sharing a child’s activity from her book, Show Me How! from 11:00am to 1:00pm.  Her book will be available for sale at the discounted price of $30.  Come enjoy a craft and meet Vivian.

High Country Home and Garden
We are hosting a Garden for the Soul potting party for kids. Each child will be able to pot a plant to introduce them to gardening. No fee, from 11:00am to 2:00pm. Plus Big Mama’s Dogs will be here selling breakfast burritos, hot dogs, brats, burgers, etc. from 9:00am to 2:00pm.

Margo’s on the Alley
I just moved! Come join me at my new address on Washington. There will refreshments and an open house!

We will be having fun and fancy face painting you don’t want to miss!

Fun at the Front Street Corral!  Old-West style fun courtesy of the Love Shop, the Bead Corner and Retrospect Dry Goods—with a big Horsey Jump House, games and prizes!
