The Chalk Walk, a FREE, family-friendly event—in the tradition of Italian
sixteenth century street painting–transforms concrete sidewalks into colorful,
pastel pathways. Pastel chalk drawings were a form of public art done for the purpose
of earning a living, pretty much like street musicians found on corners of big cities.
An artist would draw their “painting” on a busy street corner and place a basket
on the ground hoping to collect coins as people passed by.

Kids and parents are invited to join local, amateur and practicing artists to create everything from temporary chalk “masterpieces” to some colorful games of Tic-Tac-Toe!

Celebrate your creativity and build community by becoming a part of our
growing tradition in the heart of the historic downtown. Sponsor a Chalk Walk square.
Get your hands dirty chalking a square.
Be creative in other ways as a Summer Soul-stice volunteer.

The Finally Summer Soul-stice Chalk Walk is free to participants,
all chalk will be supplied by the Historic Downtown Merchants Association.
All you need to provide is your creativity and enthusiasm.
