Historic Downtown Monument and

the Historic Monument Merchants’ Association

are excited to present the third annual Banner Christmas

featuring original Christmas art banners,

handpainted by renowned local artists.

The banners are on display

on historic downtown lamp posts and throughout downtown,

and will remain on display throughout the holiday season.
 

Nurturing and building an arts-focused community has long been an effort passionate in the small town of Monument, Colorado.

The Historic Monument Merchants Association is proud to partner with the Town of Monument to provide an opportunity to bring the work of local artists to public in a display of banners celebrating the Christmas season.

The beautiful banners that grace the historic downtown will be hanging from Thanksgiving through the end of the year.

An opening and celebration of Banner Christmas will be held on Wednesday, December 16 at 5:00pm at Second Street Art Market and Wine Bar and all are encouraged to attend. Banner artists will be on hand to talk about their work. Second Street Art Market and Wine Bar is located at 366 Second Street in the town of Monument.

Laurel Bedingfield
Laurel is an outsider artist with a love for the bizarre. She works in many mediums but is best known for her OOAK art dolls. Her work has been shown and is owned by many across the states. Currently you can find her art in the gift shop at the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts where she shares a studio with her mom Claudette. You can reach her at Laurel@Gluelulu.com.

Douglas Buchman
Douglas studied art in Denver and Pittsburgh. He has worked in graphic design and illustration and as a creative director in advertising and magazine and book publishing. Trained in fine art by many nationally recognized artists through workshops and classes, Doug now resides in Monument and owns Second Street Art Market and Wine Bar. John DeFrancesco
With a background in landscape architecture and horticulture, John’s representational style depicts a distinction in (softness of) mood, shapes, edges and colors. Whether the subject is a flower pot or a garden, a building or a townscape, a pathway or a landscape, poetic subtlety is evident is his work. He is a full-time artist and lives in Monument, Colorado. Suzanne Jenne
Suzanne is a full-time artist and creative coach with more than thirty years experience designing and producing creative endeavors.  She also designs mosaic art and jewelry.  Suzanne is an Artist in Residence at Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts in Palmer Lake, and author of “All About Art,” a bi-monthly column for the Perry Park Sentinel in Larkspur, and teaches workshops emphasizing a transition to a more creative lifestyle. Barbara Kee
Barbara has been a professional sculptor and painter for over twenty-five years.While her sculptures have homes all over the US and Canada, her paintings have remained closer to home. Many have been commissioned by local charities. Wildlife and equine themes are usually the subjects of her work.  Her style is realistic with a creative cartoonish edge. 

Kathryn McMahon
McMahon is an impressionistic artist-painter and has painted all over the world. “I never leave home without my painting materials. I go outdoors to paint at least once a week, whatever the weather. The colors that I see in nature are put on canvas. Sue Molick
After spending thirty years in the oil and gas industry, Sue could no longer delay her interest in art. She has been painting in earnest for the last four years. Vicki Mynhier
A landscape architect from Texas, Vicki has always been designing and creating. She moved to Colorado in 2003 and began creating paintings on canvas in oils. For more information about Vicki’s work, please contact her at 719.460.4179.

Melanie Seiter
Melanie began oil painting in 1975. Her artwork is among private and business collections in several states. Largely self-taught, she has also studied art and painting in college and under various accomplished artists. Melanie’s devotion to nature and expression is reflected in her varied art media. Janet Sellers
Sellers is realist painter and an abstract painter as well as an abstract sculptor. “I am a natural-born artist. As long as I’m making something fun to look at, I’m in heaven, and I share it!” She is an award-winning artist of public artworks in Japan, Korea, and the USA. She has public art murals in Los Angeles, and public art sculptures in five Colorado cities including Monument. Her private art works live around the globe in many of the places she has lived. Ruby Touissant
Ruby began painting as a young girl when her mother gave Ruby her first art lesson. While living in California, Ruby continued to develop her artistic talents and techniques around places like Carmel, the wine country, beaches and the missions. Upon moving to Colorado nine years ago, she has been inspired by the mountains and changing scenes season to season. Her travels to Italy and France has her capturing the unique scenes of those countries. Ruby has award-winning art from regional shows around Colorado. She also does commisioned work. 719.487.0101.

Rebecca Wavrin Whitfield
Rebecca has enjoyed successful careers as both artist and educator. In addition to thirty years as a secondary art instructor, she taught at the Arkansas Art Center and Arkansas Governors School. Ms. Whitfield has been featured in numerous galleries and competitive shows. Her paintings are part of private and corporate collections in Arkansas, Texas and Colorado, as well as several other states.
